Social Housing has benefited from significant investment over the past 20 years as a result of initiatives such as the Decent Homes programme. Garages located alongside social housing have not, however, received the same level of attention. Over time a lot of this stock fell into disrepair. Often poorly lit or hidden from sight, garage courts and blocks have become a magnet for anti-social behaviour. This includes illegal activity, including fly-tipping, drug dealing and drug taking. Councilors and social landlords spend too much time dealing with the consequences and local residents often feel frustrated and – on occasions – intimidated.
Since 2008, Secure Parking & Storage has worked with a growing number of social landlords – both local authorities and not-for-profit housing associations – to renovate garage plots and make them safe, secure, and attractive to residents. In so doing, we’ve helped turn the tide on the anti-social behaviour and illegal activity associated for too long with housing estate garages. By turning former no-go areas into genuinely useful, high quality, and affordable amenities, we’ve built a growing and sustainable business.
That’s why it’s our mission to work with social landlords across the country to accelerate this process of transformation of some of the most unloved areas on housing estates into genuinely useful, high quality, and affordable amenities. If you work for a registered social landlord, either a local authority or a housing association, and would like to talk about how we could work together to transform your estate of garages, get in touch.
As part of our commitment to improving garage amenities we’ve also partnered with Alliance Homes in an OJEU Framework Agreement for managing and maintaining garages.
